🏔️ Introduction
There’s something magical about the Swiss Alps that words can’t fully capture. The crisp mountain air, snow-capped peaks stretching endlessly, and charming villages nestled in valleys – it’s like stepping into a postcard. I just returned from an unforgettable week in Switzerland, and I’m still pinching myself to make sure it was real!
Day 1-2: Interlaken – The Adventure Capital
Morning: Arrival & First Impressions
Landing in Interlaken felt like entering a fairy tale. Situated between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, this town is surrounded by towering peaks on all sides. The moment I stepped out of the train station, I was greeted by the majestic view of the Jungfrau massif.
Afternoon: Harder Kulm viewpoint
To get my bearings, I took the funicular up to Harder Kulm (1,322m). The panoramic view of three famous lakes and multiple 4,000-meter peaks was absolutely breathtaking.
Pro Tip: Visit around sunset for the most spectacular views!
Evening: Strolling Through Höhematte
The central park, Höhematte, is perfect for an evening walk. I watched paragliders land gracefully against the backdrop of snow-covered mountains while enjoying traditional Swiss fondue at a nearby restaurant.
🎿 Day 3-4: Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe
The Journey
Taking the cogwheel train to Jungfraujoch (3,454m) was an experience in itself. The journey through the Eiger and Mönch mountains, with stops at viewing platforms along the way, built up the anticipation perfectly.
At the Top
At Europe’s highest railway station, I:
- ✅ Explored the Ice Palace with stunning ice sculptures
- ✅ Walked on the Aletsch Glacier (the longest in the Alps)
- ✅ Visited the Sphinx Observatory for 360° views
- ✅ Sent postcards from the highest post office in Europe
Warning: It’s COLD up there! Even in summer, temperatures hover around -10°C. Dress warmly!
🏘️ Day 5-6: Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen Valleys
Grindelwald Village
This picture-perfect village with traditional Swiss chalets and flower boxes is straight out of a storybook. I spent the morning hiking the Eiger Trail – moderate difficulty but absolutely worth it for the close-up views of the notorious Eiger North Face.
Lauterbrunnen – Valley of 72 Waterfalls
Known as one of the most beautiful valleys in the world, Lauterbrunnen didn’t disappoint. The Staubbach Falls (297m) drops dramatically right next to the village. I also took the cable car up to Mürren, a car-free village with incredible views.
Hidden Gem: Visit the Trümmelbach Falls – 10 glacier-fed waterfalls INSIDE the mountain!
